Despite the fact that 80% of Americans support equal rights for everyone, most of them do not know that the LGBTQ community’s basic rights are not protected under the law. So GLAAD proposed the Equality Amendment, a constitutional amendment that would protect the basic rights of not just the LGBTQ community, but everyone, once and for all.
We adapted the equal symbol to show how diverse equality can be. Gender is not binary, skin color is not exact, and ethnicities are not inferior or superior. Equality can look like a million different combinations, and that’s why they all need to be protected equally.
We used the line “We Are The We” to call back to the other founding document of our democracy and remind people that everyone, no matter who they are, is deserving of equal rights.
